Cutter,
Are you using a type of set collar on the back side of the crank gear?
Did you make any other changes to drive assembly?

Mike

Mike,
I  reamed the 3/32 hole for a slip fit with the pin.
Relieved the center of the pin .010 by .250 (dog bone)
The pin will slip in and move slightly to the right.
Gear and pin held in position by the collar.
The pin also a slip fit to the gear keyway.
I have a thrust washer under the cap on the left end of shaft.

I am also running out of space. Wife doesn\'t want a Gatling Gun in her living room so I built a crate for it. Forunately I built the tripod version and not the wheeled carriage.

It was a good day, 30 bolts ready for extractors.

One slot, two holes in each in about 5 hours

Thanks Dave,
I was fortunate to serve my apprenticeship at a time
when there were hundreds of machinist to learn from.
In the early 60s, before computers and after steam.

These are take-off barrels from Dave B.

For what it\'s worth here\'s my procedure.

The bores vary from about .213 to .218, so I use the appropriate size

gauge pin for each bore.

Put the barrel in an adjustable 3 jaw chuck (sometimes called a bump chuck)

leaving about an inch out of the chuck. Put in the gauge pin and indicate it in.

With the compound set at 30 degrees tool in a new center.

I indicate the other end the same way, but turn a .500 diameter back .500

for a chuck or collet.

The video shows why I cut the centers.

I\'m cutting the barrels on this 9-20 Jet, using a carbide insert with a .008 radius.

400 RPM .005 chip load, chuck and live center.

I\'ll take two roughing passes of .025 off the diameter, then .008, and a .002 finish pass.

This gives a good finish, but it varies a little because of different material.

Hey, Cutter.
What are the finish dimensions of the barrel?
Thanks.

Magic is such a wonderful thing.
In my youth, there was this young lady, I tried
all kinds of Magic with her with little or no success.
Kinda like the barrels I am working on.

Yep, 1955
Today, a little 220 grit between thumb and index finger
and 30% of the turning time.
If anyone\'s bored there\'s a quiz in the barrel post.
