Linuxcnc is a software controller for cnc machines,  similar to Mach3 but much more advanced in its capabilities.      The fellow, Sam, making the linked thread, is extremely proficient in the software and has come up with a lot of new ideas.

 

The thread linked shows boring hex shapes, rounds with a flat etc.   Its done by coordinating X/Y movements with the spindle rotation.    Pretty much magic as far as I am concerned !       I use linuxcnc and may have to give this a try someday,  it would be a fantastic added capability.

 

Remember those hex bushings in the original RGG plans?    No problem !    Just bore a hex hole on the mill !
