Yup, brass won\'t bend worth a shit. It cracks/breaks. Similar to aluminum.

Going to cut on your mill? Going to need a really tiny endmill for the detail and those are a real PITA without mega rpm\'s. I have been thinking of one of those china air cooled router spindles as a sub spindle for such things, 800 watt (about 1hp) with a vfd is under $200 these days, 24000 rpm max and a er collet, Pretty small too, about 2-1/2 x6-1/2 round. Maybe later this year.

Maybe 4 or 5 hours , push button, take nap

A 2â€ to 2-1/2â€ radius will form easy with a Press, using 1/8 or 3/16 thick brass.

It can also be rolled, but this method uses more material & time

but only 4 axis machining capability.

I spoke to Paul Moore of RG G Gatling guns a few days ago regarding a build question and from our conversation I believe he might be thinking of producing some additional copies of his beautiful authentic brass medallions. He would not commit but it would be great if they became available. Maybe one of you old timers who knew him back in the day could call him and find out what he is thinking.

I am to the point of wanting a medallion for my .357 gun. Anyone have any drawing files for one? Engraving is a new area for me, going to have to practice on some scrap aluminum sheet.

I have looked at etched medallions as a alternative but the etching is very shallow so not as nice as one engraved.

Also looked at diamond drag engraving.

Have to experiment but need a drawing file. Hate to start from scratch if I don\'t have to.

Well, I am going to try to ! Its new territory for me so some experimenting will be needed. My bridgeport is really the wrong machine for the job, a LOT more rpm\'s are the norm. The time may get prohibitive.

Been playing with this some. The DXF imports as only one layer of line art. The text is shown as lines rather than fonts, so editing the text is not possible. I can delete text, no problem there. The letter \"S\" in \"Gatling\'s\" I cannot select, it appears to not be a closed shape for some reason. I was able to extrude the other letters as raised type, no problem there, I was also able to assign a toolpath to those letters I raised. I simulated a engraving toolpath with everything BUT that letter \"S\"

That problem with the letter \"S\" described above is the main problem. I was going to use the drawing with the exception of \"Klienfeldt\" which I deleted BUT I cannot do anything with that letter \"S\". Being its not recognized as a font but rather a series of lines, and not finding a similar font in windows, I cannot simply replace that one letter \"S\" I suspect the font is not a standard windows font but rather one added or included with the software used to design the medallion.

SO...... Its looking like I will have to do a new drawing but can reuse the gun artwork at least. Its OK, will be educational to layout something like this and add it to my bag of tricks.

This whole gun project has been a great learning experience which was the main reason for doing it.

Don\'t get me wrong, your S don\'t stink , its as nice a S as they come. I just can\'t get it to pile as high as the others.

Found a couple other original medallion pics. Apparently some say Gatling, others say Gatling\'s . SO... it may not be that bad to just leave the S off completely.

(I have not got to try the new parasolid file yet )
