Box Cam Template ?

I\'m getting ready to cut my Box Cam using the template 48-27.  The question I have is when I wrap the template around the box cam the two ends don\'t meet, there is a .200 gap between them, is this right? The plans call for the template to be cut into 2 pieces but I think it would be easier to glue it on in one piece and then careful remove the path material. I have been avoiding this operation for weeks and don\'t want to screw it up! Also there is a dotted line on the top of the template, what does that line up with?. Thanks.

The dotted line only refers to the counter bore.
Your template should be 9.032 long X 2.625 wide.

Mine is 8.86 x 2.57. Now how did that happen? Maybe when Paul reproduced them. If I line up BDC am I going to be ok? Thanks.

I think drawing your own template to size is best.

 Take your template over to kincos or some place where they have a copy machine that is capable of increasing the size by a certan percentage so you can enlarge your template. I would say 2% should do it.

Thanks Bruski, I had thought about that but was worried about the scale not being right. Also BCD doesn\'t look like it is in the middle of the flat area if it is suppose to be. How critical is the box cam tolerances?

 The BDC is not in the middle of the flat straight area. The flat on the BDC is critical because of the cocking rings to be able to absorb the recoil from the rear of the bolts as they pass through while firing. Other than that, the rest isn\'t as critical. If I were to redo mine in the future, I would increase the rearward travel a little extra to give more clearance for the bullets to drop without hitting the extractors. It is very tight in that area and if certain cartridges are a little bit longer than others it causes a problem.
 Try having a copy made at 1% larger and another at 2% larger or better yet take along your steel ruler and check the measurements while you are there. Go with cutters measurements.
