Hello all, I have been getting my gun dialed in and I made a discovery that I thought I’d pass on. If others have already figured this out and passed it on already I apologize for the redundancy. I was having trouble getting the right combination of light cranking torque and reliable ignition and I started to theorize that the .302 bore of the bolts was creating too much friction on the .300 diameter springs and more clearance might be the ticket so I opened the bolt bores up to .3115. What a difference! The already pleasant 25 inch pound cranking torque dropped to 20 and the firing pin energy that previously would barley mark the case about tripled, reliably igniting primers even with flat firing pin tips. I also preloaded the springs .250 and with the original .002 clearance and the cranking pressure became so stiff I was afraid something would break.
If you are having similar issues or are currently building a new gun, open those puppies up, I can’t recommend it enough.
