I've looking at that 15 deg. angle on the leading edge of the extractors since I have started. Now that I'm starting to assemble the bolts I'm really questioning the ability of that steep an angle to ride up over a cartridge casing. It just seems like 45 deg. would be ideal.
Please tell me that 15 works.
Thanks
Ron

Hi Ron,
I felt the same way you do, so I never made any with 15°
I've made 3 versions all with a radius similar to the one in picture.

Good luck

That looks really great! Thanks for the reply.Do the clearance slots in the barrels and barrel plate have to be modified to accommodate the radius?
I have the extractors made per the original design .A couple of things I really hate to do. Multiple parts and do-overs. Do you have any for sale?

Thanks Ron,
I don't have any of those extractors left. The ones I had
were .09 wide and a .094 slot in the bolt.
The barrel & barrel plate were .125 slots leaving a little wiggle room.

Are your bolts slotted yet ?
What I have are the Ruger type, shown under ( Machining/Extractors )

Yup, the bolts are slotted.
Thanks anyway.

Hi Ron,

We experienced the same feelings when we started to assemble and test things. We did end up making the extractors kind of like the plans. :?: The 15 deg. angle works if you polish the front face and put a radius on the edge. If you look at page 2 in Dennis & Brian's Build under Progress I detail what we did with the extractors. Hope that helps.

Our guns are shooting for the most part reliably. We get an occasional misfire and or jam but we can live with that. We are ready to move on to the tripod and actual surface finish of the parts.

Dennis
