I have already stated that I am not questioning his integrity.
I said I wanted information.
Maybe I am too uptignt but I thought this was humorous, I would
like to have a drink with dburn and see if he can help me
with the barrel chatter I have.
I thought that after all the posts I have made
no one would be offended.

I am glad too. Have both rotator cuffs torn. I did not even feel the vise slide out of my hands.
A non machinist friend of mine mentioned that most but not all barrels are 4140. One of my question reasons. I bought some 1/2 4140 to experiment on but have not tried to taper it yet. Did you view the picture of the machine Cutter posted? I think I am in love. That thing is beautiful. And I thought I was doing good by repairing and using an old Atlas lathe.
I tried duplicating the post Cutter made about turning barrels with the carbide cutter he showed but still had chatter. I used a diamond (tangential) tool with a spring loaded follow rest to get the best results so far. The test barrels were cut offs and I did not know the steel composition.
Cutter says Happy Days is only supposed to be Happy Hour. I did not know that.

I am using an old Atlas also. I was thinking of going back to HSS and just grind my own. See if that works.
Yea, I saw Cutters machine! Have you seen his work? Guys amazing! Place looks like an operating room!
I think Happy hour isn't enough time, I LIKE HAPPY DAY BETTER!

I think Cutter should do one of those machining books. We could all learn a lot.
I saw a you tube video of a hss cutter ground to the shape of a tangential cutter for a QCTP tool holder, 30 deg top rake, 30 deg back rake, 5 deg left side relief and 5 deg front relief. I am going to try it on a barrel as soon as I progress a bit. Will let you know how it works.
If Cutter is lurking, the Yoke is on him.
