I finished my carriage except for the stabilizers. I'm building the non-ocillating version of the RG&G gun.

Looks great! I was going to make my trunion blocks from brass, but after seeing yours I may opt for steel.

On the hitch, what is the purpose of the piece of round tubing and the hinged ring?

I think it's used to swivel the carriage quickly. They put a rod or pipe in the ring and pick up the trail to move it. Her is a picture of how I think it is used.

manatee, did you heat your brass hitch to bend it, or did you do it cold? I have a machine that will bend it cold, but am afraid it will crack. Brass isn't cheap around here.

It is not bent but soldered at an angle. I cut another piece of scrap wood to the same angle and clamped the parts for soldering being careful not to start a fire!
